Since we’re going to be out for so long, we’re going to try and keep tabs on what’s happening.
10/11 Libertyville, IL
The good: Audible vocals in the monitor, minimal travel time, we were paid, pizza (tour count: 1), we didn’t blow the new cover we’re playing, gas prices are probably the lowest they’ve been in years and we hope they’ll hold for the whole tour time.
The other: A woman sought to either temper my ego or teach me a valuable life lesson by sticking various pieces of merchandise in my ear when I was not paying attention. Multiple times. I mean, a lot. She thought it was hilarious. Everyone else thought it was at least worth encouraging her to continue.
10/12 Lincoln, NE
The good: Pretty much everything. We didn’t blow the new cover for a second consecutive day. One of our friends bought Batman pajamas for me (I mean, the full-body-zip-up pajamas just shy of footies) on the grounds that I would wear them at some point in our set (we both met our end of the agreement). People in Lincoln are always amazing. Ya-Ya’s Pizza (tour count: 2). Sleeping at Egan’s house.
The other: Wearing the pajamas for “Rob Our House” emboldened me to try and clear Ryan’s drums (the pajamas also had a cape) at the end of the song. I didn’t, really. Ryan’s drums came down. His cymbal sliced my guitar strings like a samurai sword and cracked my pickguard something heavy (along with a new huge welt on the back of the body) prompting a late-night panicked phone call to Carl Pedigo. Carl is both the best guitar guy I’ve ever encountered and his amusement (as opposed to assumed (and justified) pissiness) at the things that happen to my guitar make me feel like less of an ass. I dropped the guitar off this morning. Fingers crossed.
Busting back 8-hours for a photo shoot in Chicago with Jim Vondruska was assuredly a poor decision, but we’re really excited about what we saw on his little screen.
We’re here for a couple days, then Ryan, Jonny, and I will spend my birthday in the van en route to D.C. to meet Eamonn and play some songs. Sleep heavy, kids. It’s coming back soon.
It’s all our news.
